The Unseen.

We live in a fleeting world. With every breath exhaled from our lungs, a flower's wither complements it—a compilation of aging, decay, and an impeding approach to the end. We are not home yet.

One foot in front of the other: a life centered around the human race. The race for wealth, the race for success, the race for happiness is all-consuming. We welcome the finite into our lives and treat it as our eternity.

"So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing us for an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal."

2 Corinthians 4:16-8

When I was in middle school, my mom put this verse in our kitchen: a daily reminder of our daily pursuit. This pursuit is often overlooked by my hyper-focused heart. I found myself perseverating on the things I couldn't change. I found myself fixated on the success the world told me would define my worth. I found myself slowly letting go of the truth and replacing it with an all-consuming desire to please.

I'm writing this as a reminder to myself and you that we are not home yet. The evil in this world seems impossible to overcome. The daily pursuit of the human race. The sickness and pain that accompanies our earthly bodies. Each action, each thought, and each effort that we spend our hours fixated on should be pursued with the goal of eternity in mind.

We are not home yet. These words pierce through my soul in a way that is simultaneously unnatural and comforting. It is unnatural to live on the unseen while still not neglecting the seen. However, it is comforting to know that no matter what destruction this world contains, we are not home yet.
