The Sahara Desert, Morocco

Through a trip with CityLife Madrid, I traveled to Marrakech, Ait Ben Haddou, and the Sahara Desert with 50 other study-abroad students. This trip was a total of four full days and five nights. If you are studying abroad in Madrid, I highly recommend checking out their website. They have a lot of resources for new students and amazing trips like this one.

I hope you enjoy experiencing Marrakech from my point of view.

When we arrived at the Sahara, and I sat on a dune looking out over miles of orange sand for the first time, I couldn’t help but wonder how many grains lie in them.

According to Google, there are 1.504 septilion grains of sand in the Sahara desert. What struck me even more was that God created each one of them. Not only did He make them, but He hand-crafted each one with great uniqueness and care. Each one has value because the Sahara Desert would be vacant without each grain.

As I watched the sunrise from the top of a dune overlooking the Sahara, I couldn’t help but be in awe of the craftsmanship of our creator if each grain of sand was crafted with such care. The wind listens to the commands of the creator to form such perfect mounds. The sun rose over it all, giving light to what once was dark and casting bold shadows across the sea of sand. Each element cried out in worship of Jesus in the act of obedience.

It’s these moments, on top of a dune, sitting in silence, watching the stars disappear as the sky fills with vibrant colors, that God’s work is highlighted. I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to experience His creation from this perspective.
